Kentrol 30528 Battery Tray Review
This battery tray replaced the factory battery tray in my 2005 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. The factory tray had the stupid "wedge" battery hold-down, and when the factory threaded rod rusted out and jammed in the threaded hole in the battery tray, the rod snapped off leaving the hole plugged. Tried drilling out the jammed rod, but not enough room. Bought the Kentrol tray with some concern because some ads said "fits 1997-2004" while others said "1997-2006". Got it, and it fit just fine in my 2005 Unlimited. The Kentrol has the more traditional hold-down strap with all stainless steel hardware. I was able to fit a Sears Diehard Platinum group 65 battery in the tray (slightly bigger than the factory spec group 34) BUT I did have to remove the hold-down ledge from the bottom of one side of the battery to get it to fit. The rest of the install went fairly smoothly; the battery temperature sensor fit right in the hole in the middle of the tray, the tray bolted in place. The only hiccup was that the stainless steel bolts that came with the Kentrol had standard hex heads (12 mm if I remember correctly?) and no washers. This meant that the bolts had very little material overlapping with the tray on the elongated/widened holes in the battery tray. A trip to the hardware store for some stainless steel washers fixed that problem. Overall I'm very happy with the tray and believe it will work out well as a replacement for the factory tray. Most of the consumer Reviews tell that the "Kentrol 30528 Battery Tray" are high quality item.
